On Tuesday evening, December 30, 2025, the Rector of the University of Health Sciences, Prof. Merzak Gharnaout, chaired a coordination meeting with a group of university hospital assistant professors in general surgery, dedicated to finalizing arrangements for an international surgical training program.

The meeting was attended by Prof. Tahar Delassi, Deputy Rector in charge of External Relations and Scientific Events; Mr. Mouloud Melkaoui, Secretary General of the University; Prof. Fayçal Bouali, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; Dr. Iman Amrani, Coordinator of cooperation with Asian and Arab academic and hospital institutions; along with several assistant professors participating in the program.

The program will take place at the First Affiliated Hospital of the Faculty of Medicine of Zhejiang University (FAZHU), People’s Republic of China. Discussions focused on the final organizational and practical arrangements, as well as guidance to ensure the smooth implementation of the program and optimal benefit for participants.

Implemented under the cooperation agreement signed last year between the University of Health Sciences and FAZHU, the program includes a one-month intensive training placement, with a particular focus on hepato-biliary and pancreatic surgery.

During the meeting, Prof. Merzak Gharnaout highlighted the importance of this initiative in strengthening specialized surgical training, promoting exposure to advanced surgical techniques, encouraging international exchange of expertise, and contributing to improved healthcare quality within national institutions.
