The Dr. Youssef Al-Khatib University of Health Sciences Hosts an Awareness Day on Algeria’s Health System Through the Archives
The General Directorate of National Archives under the Presidency of the Republic, in coordination with the Dr. Youssef Al-Khatib University of Health Sciences, organized an awareness day on:
“The Health System in Algeria Through the Archives,” accompanied by a digital exhibition of archival materials documenting the evolution of the health system in Algeria across various historical periods, in the presence of a number of senior officials, representatives, and officials from national bodies and institutions.
The day’s events were attended by:
The representative of the Director General of the National Archives under the Presidency of the Republic, Mr. Othmani Marabat,
Senior officials from the Presidency of the Republic,
The representative of the Director of the University of Health Sciences, Professor Laatifi Rachid,
Mr. Boukhalfa Kamal, representative of the National Health Security Agency,
Senior officials from the General Directorate of the National Archives under the Presidency of the Republic,
Mr. Belkacem Mostafa, Director of the National Archives Center,
Mr. Jaber Abdelkader, Director General of the National Employment Agency,
Ms. Kaabouch Hakima, representative of the General Directorate of the National Social Security Fund for Salaried Workers,
In addition to the university’s vice presidents, the university’s secretary-general, the deans of the colleges, the college secretaries-general, the administrative staff of the university and the colleges, and the university community, including professors, students, and administrators.
The program began with a visit to the digital archive exhibition, which highlighted key milestones in the history of Algeria’s healthcare system, followed by the opening ceremony of the awareness day with verses from the Holy Quran, then the national anthem, and a moment of silence in memory of the late Dr. Youssef Al-Khatib.
Professor Laatifi Rachid, the university’s vice president for pedagogy, delivered a welcome address on behalf of the university’s president, the late Dr. Youssef Al-Khatib, Professor Gharnout Marzouk, in which he emphasized the importance of such scientific gatherings in raising awareness of the significance of the archives and their role in preserving the nation’s health heritage.
Mr. Othmani Marabat, representative of the Director General of the National Archives under the Presidency of the Republic, also delivered the official opening address, followed by a speech by Mr. Boukhalfa Kamal, representative of the National Health Security Agency.
The scientific program included two specialized lectures. Ms. Malek Jouhar, Deputy Director of Management Techniques at the General Directorate of the National Archives, presented a lecture titled:
“The Contribution of Historical Archives to Scientific Research and Public Health,”
while Mr. Reda Ben Lakssira, Director of Archival Modernization and Digitization at the General Directorate of National Archives, presented a lecture titled:
“Digital Medical Archives: Sovereignty, Risks, and Preservation Requirements.”
A discussion session was also opened to professors and students, allowing for an exchange of views and ideas on the importance of health archives and ways to enhance and digitize them.
The day’s events concluded with a visit to the simulation center at the University of Health Sciences, named after the martyr Dr. Youssef Al-Khatib.
