Introduction to the library

The Central Library is one of the University’s institutions and is subject to the provisions of Decree No. 03-279 issued on August 23, 2003, which defines the University’s tasks and organizational rules, particularly Articles 25 and 31. The Central Library is headed by a Director responsible for the management and operation of the institutions affiliated with it.

The University of Health Sciences “Mujahid Dr. Youssef El Khatib” in Algiers (Ben Aknoun) is a specialized university institution established under Executive Decree 24-320 of 2024. It includes three main faculties: the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Dentistry, and the Faculty of Pharmacy, and aims to promote modern medical training and update medical curricula.

Library tasks

The tasks of the Central Library were mentioned in the joint ministerial decree issued on August 24, 2004, which established the administrative organization of the University Presidency, the College, the Institute, the University Annex and its shared services, (Section 3, Article 21);

 

The university’s central library undertakes the following tasks:

Proposing programs for acquiring university books and documents, in cooperation with college and institute libraries.

Maintaining the database of university theses and dissertations.

Organizing the central library’s collection using the latest processing and classification methods.

Maintaining the central library’s collection and ensuring its catalog is continuously updated.

Creating suitable conditions for students and faculty to use the collection. Assisting faculty and students with their bibliographic research.

Library services

The central library includes 4 services

Acquisition interest:

This department is responsible for purchasing and acquiring all types of documents, such as books, periodicals, official newspapers, and all content related to the production of documents that meet the needs of users.

Processing service:

This service is responsible for indexing, classifying, and cataloging all types of documents, and preparing databases related to the library's document collection, using the unified library management system with a Syngeb network connection.

Bibliographic search service:

This service helps and trains readers in methods of information retrieval, using automated catalogs and library document catalogs, and by recording their searches in the National Online Documentation System.

Bibliographic Research Service:

This service helps and trains readers in methods of information retrieval, using automated catalogs and library document catalogs, and by recording their searches in the National Online Documentation System.
