To mark the start of the new academic year 2026–2027, the Dr Youssef Al-Khatib University of Health Sciences followed the official opening ceremony for the academic year, presided over by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Kamal Badari, from Mohamed Al-Sadiq Ben Yahia University in the province of Jijel, via live stream.
The national opening ceremony served to reaffirm the continued development of Algerian universities, the enhancement of the quality of education and scientific research, the acceleration of digital transformation, and the promotion of innovation and initiative, alongside strengthening the university’s engagement with its economic and social environment and improving conditions for university life.
Following the official opening ceremony for the 2026–2027 academic year, the launch ceremony for the new academic year took place at the University of Health Sciences ‘Mujahid Dr Youssef Al-Khatib’, attended by the Vice-Chancellors, the Secretary-General of the University, the Deans of the faculties, the Secretaries-General, and the administrative staff of the University and the faculties, as well as lecturers, staff and students, in an atmosphere marked by a spirit of optimism and readiness for a new season of work and contribution.

In this context, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Pedagogy, Professor Laatafi Rachid, delivered a speech on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gharnaout Marzouk, in which he welcomed members of the university community, and in particular the new students, wishing them a university career filled with success and excellence.
He emphasised that the start of the academic year marks a new phase in continuing efforts to consolidate the quality of education, encourage scientific research and innovation, and foster a spirit of responsibility and excellence, stressing the importance of all members of the university community joining forces to achieve the university’s objectives.
He also called on students to demonstrate diligence and perseverance, and to make the most of the various academic and educational opportunities available, enabling them to build a successful academic career and contribute in the future to serving society and the national health system.
The event also featured welcoming addresses by the deans of the Faculties of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy, and their representatives, in which they welcomed the students, affirming the faculties’ readiness to support and guide them, and to provide the appropriate conditions for a successful start to their university careers.
On the academic front, the programme included a lecture by Dr Shalgoum entitled:
‘The Impact of Digital Technologies on Various Aspects of Life’
The lecture addressed the rapid transformations brought about by digital technologies in various aspects of life, and the opportunities and challenges they present, thereby emphasising the importance of keeping pace with scientific and technological developments within the university.
With the opening of this new academic year, the University of Health Sciences ‘Al-Mujahid Dr Youssef Al-Khatib’ renews its commitment to continuing its mission in education and scientific research, serving its students, and strengthening its position as a centre for science, knowledge and innovation.
